Tsoureki is one of the most popular of current trending foods in the world. It is simple, it is quick, it tastes delicious. It’s appreciated by millions daily. They’re fine and they look fantastic. Tsoureki is something that I’ve loved my entire life.

Tsoureki recipe - How to make the perfect Greek Easter bread dough. It is a common secret, that making your own Greek Easter bread (tsoureki) is quite challenging even for the experienced cooks. Brush over tsoureki loaves and sprinkle with slivered almonds.

To get started with this recipe, we must prepare a few components. You can cook tsoureki using 10 ingredients and 6 steps. Here is how you cook it.

The ingredients needed to make Tsoureki:
  1. Prepare 1 kg flour (for tsoureki)
  2. Prepare 300 g sugar
  3. Prepare 200 g melted butter
  4. Make ready 5 eggs
  5. Prepare 3 satchels yeast
  6. Get 1 tsp salt (5 gr)
  7. Take 1 cup lukewarm milk (200 gr)
  8. Take zest of a large orange
  9. Take 1 level tsp ground mahlab (3 gr)
  10. Take 1 level tsp ground mastic (3 gr)

Both of these help in creating a tsoureki that stays moist for days on end if it is wrapped carefully with cling film. Otherwise, the dough will be quite runny and you will not be able to shape the tsoureki. Tsoureki is Greeks favorite Easter treat. Bread is kinda firm and condensed, while Tsoureki is very airy and fluffy.

Steps to make Tsoureki:
  1. Make a light dough with the yeast, the lukewarm milk and  1/4 (250 gr) of the flour. Cover and let rise for about  20'.
  2. Meanwhile, use anoter bowl to beat the sugar, eggs, salt, spices and the rest of the flour.
  3. Add the dough that has already risen and knead until you get an integrated dough.
  4. Add the butter gradually and knead until you get a soft dough. Cover the bowl and let it rise until it doubles.
  5. Form the tsourekia in whatever shape you like and place on a buttered tray. Let them rest in a warm place so that they rise.
  6. Brush with a bit of beaten egg (if you like, sprinkle with blanched almonds) and bake at 150° for 35-40'.
