Urad (also known as black gram, black lentil, Hindi: urad, Gujarati: adad), is a little black seed with a white interior. It is very similar to a mung bean in size and shape but tastes entirely different. It has also been eaten in India for thousands of years and is highly prized.

Steps to make Black gram lentil(urad) / kalnyachi bhakri… Khandeshi style:
  1. Take all the ingredients mentioned above and knead to make a stiff but nit hard dough.
  2. Divide the dough into 5 to 6 balls.
  3. Dust the roti stand(chakka) with some flour.
  4. Take one ball, again knead it finely and flat it with your palms on chakla. Make a round shape. It should not be very thin and very thick.
  5. Put the rounded bhakari on heated iron griddle. Apply some water evenly on upper side of bhakari.
  6. When water getting disappear, with the help of flat spatula flip it. Cook till brown spots appear on the bottom side of the bhakari (about 1 minute on high flame) - - Flip again and cook it directly on the flame till it ballons up or till it is well cooked.
  7. Apply some oil on bhakari.
  8. Repeat the process for all balls.
  9. Serve hot with groundnut chutney along with kadhi, sliced onion and khandeshi pickel.
